. Lanquin is a tiny little village in the centre of Guatemala surrounded by beautiful green mountains and lots of waterfalls and caves and rivers and all sorts. Stayed in a great hostel that had a huge garden and a river at the bottom of it which was nice for swimming as it was so hot. Main reason here was to go and visit the park of Semuc Champey which is a bit of a natural wonder. It is a limestone platform that has formed above a river in a huge gorge and stretches for about 500m downstream, concealing the river beneath. Water spills over onto the top of it and has formed these really nice green pools that are good for swimming in. At the end of the day, our guide took us to the end of this platform to see where the river comes out below and we climbed down the side of it and underneath the thing which was really good. Lots of jumping off cliffs into the river as well which is always fun. Went on a tour of some nearby caves too which are partially submerged, meaning that you have to swim through them carrying a candle in one hand to light the way which was an experience.
