Small dusty town that is created solely for the impressive mayan ruins that are here. It's in the tropical lowlands surrounded by jungle and I stayed in a small group of hostels out of town that are cabins in the jungle which is a nice change of scene. Unfortunately they naturally attract the hippy crowd and I have spent several evenings having to contemplate these odd people. They are damn good jugglers though. The ruins were very impressive, dating back to about 100BC I think. There are also some stunning swimming spots an hour or so away. I went to the waterfall at Misol-Ha, famous for Arnold Schwarznegger's timeless performance in Predator, which is a 25m single drop fall which was pretty good. But we then went over to a place called Agua Azul which is a river where it goes over a long series of rapids (7km worth). The incredible thing about the river is it's amazing blue colour and the clearness of the water. Definitely the best river i've ever been to.
