Knokke-Heist

Hi there!

I just got back from a beautiful stay at Knokke. The town is nice, with quite a glamorous flair to it (expensive clothes, expensive cars, expensive shops), though there is a nice family feeling to it. The beach is amazing, huge and beautiful and if the weather is nice the water might not be all that cold. People usually move by bicicle or "quickstax" and there are plenty of activities for the young ones.

Kids (and parents) make paper flowers that they sell on the beach, though in order to by them, you need to pay with a special kind of seashell (couteaux) that you can find at the shore.

When the weather is not that nice or you've had enough of the beach, parents take their kids for a belgian waffle at SISKA (there are two restaurants with an amazing playground area for kids, one is called Marie Siska, nicer in a way but a lot more posh and the service is dreadful. The other is called Kinder Siska and though it is not as striking, the playground is still great and the service is really good and servers are truly nice. They are 500 m from each other so I recommend the latter one). But if you stay around the beach front, you might want to have a great "speculoos" ice cream at the POST Glacier or at Australian Glaces. There is a bit of a split opinion about which of them is best, but having tried both I can say they are both great (though, it is true that at the Post the portions are bigger and cheaper).

So, if you are heading to Knokke, my only recommendation is to bring some warm clothes along with the swim gear -it can be pretty rainy and damp at times- and to keep away from MARIE SISKA (the place is superb, but the waiters are frankly unfriendly and, after going there almost every day -and spending the money- when a little problem arose and we spoke to the lady in charge, she not only dismissed our polite claim, but treated us extremely rudely and without manners, there is no way I am spending any more in there).
