Our first day of bad weather in Australia - drizzly, cold and a good day to stay indoors. So we do stay indoors for most of the day, along with the TV-watching losers at the hostel. It's funny how some hostels attract certain types of people. This one attracts the pommie booze-heads who like to spend all day long sitting on the porch drinking, smoking and swearing, then continue that over into the evening, only with more volume. It also attracts various people who don't seem to be travellers, as they just come and go throughout the day, watch TV programmes about engineering and smoke cigarettes. Even though this isn't really our thing, especially while on holiday, the weather and lack of indoor things to do around here eventually forces us onto the couch for a few episodes of the 'Modern Engineering Marvels' marathon.

We do extricate ourselves for a walk to a beach we haven't seen yet, and also to Coffs Harbour's famous icon - the Big Banana. It is a good size for a banana (well, a model of one anyway) but it is not something I could drive all day to go and see. Apparently these 'big' things are dotted all around Australia, from the Big Spider to the Big Orange, and everything in between.

Finally, after reluctantly learning the challenges facing the designers of some big bridge in Germany, 4.15 rolls around and we get a lift down to the bus station for our Greyhound to Byron Bay. En route to Byron, we stop for a meal break at Ballina, the home of the Big Prawn. Now this is a big something worth stopping for. Perched atop the fish & chip shop, it is probably 25 metres long and 10 metres high, and scary as hell with its claws and tentacles, or whatever they are.
