So after 5 days of marathon bus rides and border crossings through Croatia_Bosnia_Montenegro_Albania and Greece we needed a rest........our minds raced............to where?.........but we knew really_ it had to be Yannis!
Agios Nickolaus won't ever blow your socks off but it's a nice enough place..........the water is good......mountain views to boot......some excellent Cretan food (if you can find it)......book cafes........ generally a good place not to do much......but what saves Agios Nickolaus from it's fate as an anywhere Greek beach town is Yannis......a 25 year old rock institution..........and a dead set top contender for the title of Jamangie's favourite bar in the world.
Upon entering it was like we never had left...........Yanni even knowingly nodded...and smilingly said something incomprehensible in Greek.......clearly approving our re_aquattaince.....which says a lot for how much Raki we must have drunk with him last time we were there five years previous. And so over the course of the next few days we got into a simple rythym.......a kind of Greek therapeutic massage.....swimming in the mornings......coffee and books in the arvo ............stuffing our faces on cretan goodness............then boozing until we could stand it no longer......which on Yannis backwards clock we could never tell when it actually was......
Just what the doctor ordered!
