Ironstone Gully Falls to Brockman Highway
Total Roadtrip Distance so far… 22,406km

The good thing about staying in free campgrounds is that they are free (obviously!), the bad thing is that you don’t usually have running water or shower facilities in them!  We left fairly early this morning and continued on our roadtrip south.  Our first stop today was Busselton, famous for it’s 2km long jetty.  Apparently it’s the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere and was constructed in 1865.  There’s also a tram that runs on it but when we were there we didn’t see one running.  You could walk along it at a cost of $2.50 per person.

We then continued along through Dunsborough to Cape Naturaliste.  We decided to do the 1.2km lighthouse loop and to be honest, it wasn’t the best.  Yes we had pretty good views but we were expecting a lot more from it and by the end of it our feet were filthy!  Anyway, we continued on through Yallingup and down the coast road to Margaret River.  This place was crazy!  There were people everywhere, everywhere!  We really wanted to go to the chocolate factory so after popping into the information centre to find out where exactly it was we were back on the road in our lovely van.  We arrived at the chocolate factory and this place was also crazy!  It was so busy, people were walking around everywhere.  We ended up parking on the ridge between two trees before making our way inside.  Inside was so packed, adults and children everywhere!  After tasting some free honeycomb we stumbled across the queue for a taste of the free chocolate drops.  They were delicious!  John did manage to get himself into a spot of trouble both times we queued up.  The first time for trying to use a napkin to hold his chocolates in, the second for taking too many!  It was ridiculous really!

From Margaret River we made our way more south passing by lots of vineyards and wineries.  We continued on through Augusta and out to Cape Leeuwin where the Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean meet.  It was pretty amazing out here and there was so much to try take in.  It was so peaceful and we really loved it here.  We had picked out a free area to park up in for the night and so made our way out to it.  Upon arriving at it we saw that it had brand new “no camping” signs - not a good sign!  We had seen a few caravans and campers parked up a parking area a few kilometres back so we headed back that way and parked up with them.  There were no facilities here so we had to improvise.  We ended up cooking in the dark and having an early night.  It was certainly interesting but it was free so we cannot complain!
