Today we drove out to the Nambung National Park. This is home to the Pinnacles Desert. Here there are thousands of limestone pillars all rising from the sandy floor. We were very impressed when we saw it. We really didn’t expect to see what we saw at all! There are a number of theories about how it formed ranging from saying that they are the result of thousands of years of erosion to thinking that they are the remains of a petrified forest. The information centre here had lots of interesting displays and information about it all. After leaving the information centre we went on the Desert View Walk through this amazing desert of giant limestone stacks. After the walk we did the Pinnacles Drive. This was definitely a highlight! John was loving driving off road! We followed the track all the way around the loop and it was good craic!
After our adventurous morning at the Pinnacles it was time to get on the road to Perth! We continued along the Indian Ocean Drive. On one of our maps it was marked as unsealed, on the other it was sealed. We believed the sealed one! Turns out this section of the road has only recently opened up to all traffic. It was a lovely scenic drive along the coast. We stopped off in Lancelin where we had lunch in the day area. It was then onto Perth to meet up with Jen and Neil. It will be great to finally see some friendly faces and catch up with friends from home!
