Eighty Mile Beach to Karratha
Total Roadtrip Distance so far… 19,218km

This morning we popped into Port Hedland on our way south.  Port Hedland is a very industrious town and every second person we saw on the roads, in the shops, driving 4WDs were wearing some sort of a mining uniform or work clothing.  Also, everywhere here is covered in red dust, it was all over the van inside and out by the time we left!  The dock here handles the iron ore that is mined at Newman nearby and is the exporting point for it, exporting more tonnage than any other Australian port.  We took a wander around town before having some lunch by the port.

After checking out the port we were back on the road.  We decided to park up for the night at Karratha Roadhouse.  There were so many truckies here and we were told to just park up beside them.  We later spotted some other campervanners coming in so we decided to park up at the side with them so ended up moving our van.  It was unbelievably hot in the van tonight and upon trying to open the windows for a few minutes for a breeze three giant mozzys found their way in so we just had to put up with the heat and attempt to sleep.  We couldn’t really complain though because it was free to stay here.  A shower the following morning cost $4 each but it was definitely needed after the heat of the van the previous night!
