Jolimont Caravan Park
Yaamba to Kuttabul
Total Roadtrip Distance so far… 8,896km
After waking up to the lovely smell of birds and what results from them spending the night above our van we packed up and were on the road by 9am. We were hoping for a heavy shower of rain and it was forecast but it never came. Anyway, we soldiered on and did quite a bit of distance today. We drove through the outskirts of Marlborough and Clairview before stopping in Ilbilbie for petrol and ice. It’s another hot one today. We also heard on the radio that the beginnings of what could potentially turn into a tropical cyclone is building up in the Coral Sea. Not exactly what we want to hear when heading north. Especially considering we want to go on a sailing trip to the Whitsundays. Anyway, anything could happen and we’ll just have to keep a closer eye on the weather over the next few days.
We continued on the road and stopped in Mackay where we popped into Woolworths and Liquorland. We also had to make a stop at “Windscreen Magic” as a stupid truck passing us on the highway earlier today threw up a huge stone that chipped and cracked our windscreen. It’s so annoying when things like this totally beyond your control happen. Our bank balance doesn’t like it either. Anyway $65 later it was all filled in and repaired and we were back on the road ($65 is a whole lot better than the $129 O’Brien’s quoted us earlier in the day!)
We’d decided to stay just outside of Mackay for tonight. As there are no overnight rest areas or free overnight parking areas between here and Airlie Beach we popped into Jolimont caravan park in Kuttabul where we parked up for $20 for the night. Not bad considering we made full use of the kitchen, freezer and tv! We even managed to catch up on some Desperate Housewives and watched Home & Away for the second time since coming to Australia, this time seeing loads of the bits we visited!
