After the Sunshine Coast we headed down to the Gold Coast for a week of Theme Park madness and some further swimming in the warm Queensland seas, where the water is around 20 degrees. During the same time the great weather we had up north abandoned us with most days being windy, overcast with temperatures in the low to mid twenties.

We stayed in a caravan park on Main Beach, which was a nice enough location aside from the fact that we had a site right on the highway. The nights were particularly noisy. On Thursday and Friday we did Wet'n'Wild and Movie World respectively (more on this in another blog entry by Grace, Rose and Lily). On Saturday we went for a walk along the promenade and on Sunday we caught up with Cath and Grant.

On Sunday night we experienced uber gale force winds all night, which almost ripped the camping trailer to bits ;-). Suffice to say we didn't sleep much that night and woke up bright and early to news that the high winds would prevail for several more days. Not enthused about enduring more days of the same we made a decision to move on but remain in the same vicinity since we still had to do Sea World. We packed up lickity split and headed to Bina Burra, which is in Lamington National Park.

We arrived at Bina Burra around lunch time, got our of the car, looked at the camp ground, got in the car and drove out of Bina Burra. Possibly the worst camp ground we have encountered and to top it up they were undertaking some excavation work for the duration of our stay. We were now tired, hungry and no where to stay....not a good combination.

To cut a long story short everything turned out fantastic. We ended up securing beach front 14th floor apartment in Rainbow Bay for three nights. The couple managing the apartments were lovely as they allowed us to also park our camper trailer in a secure undercover facility. The views of the beach and across to Surfers Paradise were fantastic and the kids loved the change of scenery and some home luxuries. The winds have persisted for the last few nights but it didn't bother us. If you're looking at staying around the Gold Coast you really can't go past Rainbow Bay.

We move on tomorrow and looking forward to spending three days around Coffs Harbour with Gary, Jen, Joe and Georgina.
