For those who have not been on a eye expedition the mornings after surgery are, without hyperbole, an experience on the level of a spiritual epiphany. At daybreak each morning, the patients who received surgery the prior day are led back to the clinic by their family members for us to remove the patches and evaluate their post surgical eye. One by one the blue patches are removed and their eyes are opened to a new world. There is always a cacophony of sound as each begins describing the things they now see or can't wait to see--flowers, faces, children, birds in the sky. If the experience were held in silence it would be equally as powerful--Raised hands, wide smiles, dancing feet. It is truly a moving experience. This morning was no different.

So Felix... The gentleman who was led in to the clinic on Monday by the hand of another. His patch came off and his whole countenance changed. His shoulders straightened, his head raised, and he looked around the room almost stunned. The first words out of his mouth "gracias a Dios" -- Thanks be to God. My own vision blurred as tears welled up in my eyes, moved by the power of this encounter. The LORD has provided for this man. He can see again, work again and he knows the source of his blessing--God the Father Almighty.

Psalm 121 echoes Felix's sentiments--"I lift my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD maker of heaven and earth."
