We were going to Sihnoukville, and then getting a ferry to koh rong the monkey island to meet andrea and lici again. We got to the place where you buy the ferry ticket at 12:10 so just in time but the ferry was late anyway (not surprising but we've learnt to just go along with it...where else do we have to be?) I had some peanut butter on toast yum. We got taken from the ticket place (also a restaurant hence the pb) to the ferry and we could see nothing the distance but white and thought Ohhhhhh fuck here it comes and rain poured the most ever, thank god we didn't get on the boat then! It was mental. Then it stopped and got on, 2hours I thought I had better take two sickness tablets, I got them from Thailand and they're so strong and so drowsy I would have given anything to have had a bed on that boat
Anyway we're on the island now and it is soo idyllic and beautiful white sand, drift wood sitting on the sand lapping up the sea idyllic.
there is one shop 2 places that serve food an 2 that do a bbq of the fish caught earlier on the whole island.
We got of the island an hadn't got anywhere to stay and heard put names being called so tha k god andrea had seen us cos we are staying with this Cambodian man who is the sweetest man in the entire world, i love him as want to leave jake for him.
he has his front teeth missing, laughs at anything and nothing, will sit there and try and learn English with you while teaching us Cambodian and has an award on his wall for giving money to schools on the mainland. He ha a hand written list of phrases and when he saw our Cambodian book he wrote some more like it was the funniest thing. I just don't know how I'm going to leave!
Another thing I should tell you how remote this island is, there is 4 hours electricity a day from 6:30-10:30, no wifi and once your on the island thats it till the next morning. it's like shipwrecked. But it's rained on and off and we havnt seen blue skies since we got here
I knew there was no electricity and i worried how am I going to live without a fan at least at night cos in the power cut in siem reap i woke up in a ball of sweat and having a cold shower at 4 am but the night sky and milky way did make up for it.
it's ok here cos his place is on the pier and it dosnt have proper walls, it's a wooden hut with four separate rooms and a main bit where we talk to Mon, our room is the most expensive at $7 which is a fiver per night an we have a balcony with two hammocks, not that we've used them! Comfy bed though and princess Emily and princess jake are back :D
There are 6 types of poisonous snakes and no anti venom on the island, that's 27 mins away from the speed boat man. Why they don't leave it here I don't know!
There was a cobra at the main back packers resort a few days ago which they killed.
Every night there they put on a fire show where they practise and they are bloody good. But the cooooolest thing in the world (apart from Mon) is the bioluminescent plankton in the sea. You have to do it at night obviously but you go into the sea and swash your arms and legs through the water and you move it all around and it lights up like avatar. If you move your legs it's like they're all sparkly under the water.
It is a very beautiful island and I could and would stay longer if it was nicer weather but we might as well go to the mainland and sort out our Vietnam visas which is going to cost quite a bit and take a few days to process. We should do out Australian ones thinking of it!
