The Dominican Republic is a beautiful country. Flying over the island into Punta Cana we witnessed long stretches of mountainous jungle and crystal clear water forming waves that crashed on to golden beaches along the coast. Much of the island's people live in poverty, the likes of which we could see while driving to the resort. However, the economy is developing at a rapid (perhaps not sustainable) pace due to increased tourism and Punta Cana is one of the main locations for the industry.
I often felt incompentent not knowing Spanish and I have now made it a goal to learn the language as it becomes more and more common-place even in the US.
The best parts of our trip were eating dinner together and talking and laughing about the days events or stories of the past. Everyone got along very well and I especially enjoyed spending time with my brother. This was a vacation I will never forget.
