Where I stayed
On our way to Avebury we saw a “chalk horse” I guess it’s called, an ancient carving in the hillside. It just was there as we rounded a bend in the road.
We planned to stay the night in Avebury by the open set of stones there, but the B&B we wanted, and all others around, were taken already so we drove to Marlborough. There we got a room in a small hotel called the Castle and Bell. This was an interesting hotel. It reminded us of the really cheap hotel we stayed at in Paris in ’91. Crooked, squeaky floors and narrow hallways. But the room was very pleasant, and this was no cheap (well, it was cheap – but it was nice) hotel. Let’s just say it had character, and Rick Steves would love it. Besides, we got 2 dinners for 9.95 pounds.
