Budapest is awesome. We weren't really expecting much and I think when you don't expect much of a city it can really surprise you. However, Budapest was probably the first city where we felt a little bit insecure as far as safety goes. Though once out of the train station all the strange characters miraculously disappear.

When we first hopped of the train in Keletti station in Budapest the first thing that we both noticed was the amount of weirdos hanging around. We hadn't been in a big city in a while, so I guess all the freaky characters hanging around the station was a little intimidating. After stuffing around in the station for a good half an hour trying to work out how to get to our hostel, we finally made it there close to midnight.

Budapest was awesome!!! We both really liked the place and it was kind of refreshing to get back into a massive city with plenty going on and plenty to do. We spent the first day checking out the sites and stuff which was lovely. There's a kick ass castle district and the view of the parliament building from up there is awesome. We ended up finishing our first day in one of the thermal baths that are spread out throughout the city.

The next day we set out on a day trip to a couple of smaller towns on the Danube. They were recommended to us by locals and the way that everyone was crapping on about these places, made us want to move to one of them before even seeing either of them. One Hungarian bloke at the train station was like "oh man, I hope you have your cameras with you, these places are special." So we headed of to these towns excited as ever expecting to see some heavenly places that would be like nothing else in the world. It wasn't to be!!! Without a doubt, I would have had more fun bird watching in Bungendore than walking around these boring outpost towns. The first place, Estergom was ok, nothing too special with a massive bassilica on the hill. The highlight of this place was walking across the bridge into Slovakia, having a cheap lunch and picking up some cheap beers for one of the blokes back at the hostel.

Anyway, we got back to the hostel later that night, sunk a few quiet ones and hit the sack. In the early hours a couple of Yanks came back into the dorm room, loud and boozed they finally went to bed. It was at this point that the more well-fed guy began to have some sort of snoring fit in the bed right next to mine. Man was I shitty, at 3am, all I wanted to do was get some sleep cause we had to be up early in the morning. I rolled around for a good hour trying all different ways to drown out the sound, from wrapping my jumper around my head rambo style to burying it under the mattress. Nothing would work and the sound of this guys snoring was seriously making me go mad!! I got up to get my disc man out of my bag, I turned it up to the loudest setting, but I could still hear the large lads scuba snoring through the tunes.

So, after bugger all sleep we headed of to Bratislava the next day.
