This place didn't seem Swiss at all, it felt more like a non-tacky beach resort setting the likes you would find on the French Riviera. The town was straddled on the opposite end of Lake Geneva from Geneva itself, with lush green mountains descending into the waters only broken by the belt of the town with many ornate homes and vineyards.
We were very lucky to have strayed into Montreux during the world famous Jazz festival that had give the place a real vibrant and lively feel that persuaded us to stay a few more days longer.
On one of the days we visited the Chateau De Chillon, a beautiful fortress sitting on the waters edge a short walk out of town. This is the most visited historical site in Switzerland however we managed to catch it early in the morning with very few other visitors. The sun had at last paid us a visit for really the first time in two weeks of travelling.
