I had to get up at three bloody o'clock to catch my bus to Lithuania. I panicked a bit when I discovered that the doors to the hotel were locked solid shut with no one at reception. Luckily I managed to wake someone up and then was rushing in the dark past the massive sinister looking buildings to the bus station. An on again off again sleep on the bus before I was driving into Vilnus at 6.30am. I walked to the hostel I was staying at, where the guy at reception was still in bed on the couch. Guaranteed a room later when a few people had checked out I stashed my pack away and dashed into town. I had to fill in until 3pm which I thought was pretty late to check in. Turns out the Hostel no checkout time policy, first and last hostel I have come across. I finally managed to get to be at 3pm and slept all day.
The first sight out of the hostel is the farmers market, consisting of all sorts of treats including dead animal carcasses lying in trailers and fruit and veg.
Vilnus has a really small relaxing vibe about it. I visited the three crosses hill and the Frank Zappa memorial.

The bunch at the hostel are pretty cool and all have pretty envious travel stories to tell. I ended up on some 8% beers and then some salty Liquorice Vodka that night that a Finnish girl had brought. I was pretty smashed by the end of the night.
The next day I booked my bus to Poland after having a sleep in and then headed to the 'Genocide of the Lithuanian People Museum' and a former KGB base. The place had a dramatic and thought provoking atmosphere that was heightened by a series of gruesome photographs of victims of war.
When it was time to leave I was a bit jealous as everyone was going out again.
