Where I stayed

I've always found it exciting returning to a place that I've previously been, its the idea of getting a second chance to experience what a place has to offer. Its also nice being somewhere vaguely familiar. I had been down on a day trip from the Gold Coast previously on a sunday, but hadn't experienced the night life for which laid back byron has an association with.

Again we choose to stay in a Hostel but this time more for the social aspect rather than the weather (although the weather was still shocking). I have never minded staying at YHA's in the past, I've found like all other hostels there are the good with the bad, but Mark wasn't really keen at first as he'd had a few bad stays at overly strict ones in Europe. The hostel itself was modern, clean and sociable and a pretty good choice, although we wouldn't have minded where we slept as this was our finally night on the road together and we intended on celebrating in a big way.

After another modest dinner (more packeted pasta) we ventured into town to one of the local bottle stores and picked up a bottle of a little something something to get us underway. We started playing cards in a fairly social area, but it wasn't long before we had been abandoned by our neighbors - losers. A bit later on and after half a bottle, we ventured onto another table and were invited to play some cards with a pretty rowdy, worldly mix and then continued into town to party on.

Now we have both been asked to leave our fair share of bars lately, but at about ten minutes to two Mark was asked to leave the Monkey Bar for being too intoxicated, which was hardly the case. Usually we know when we've crossed the line and tonight wasn't one of those nights (I thought we were being quite well behaved). It was a shame as we had meet a great group of people and were having an awesome night. The timing as well couldn't have been worse, because Byron Bay has a lock out at 2am meaning that we weren't able to get into any other bars - Night ruined. So it was back to the hostel via the pie shop. The next day two Brit girls we were with said they also got booted out of the same bar.

The next day we woke not feeling nearly as hangover as we ought to have been and checked out, We did toy with the idea of staying another night but I was pretty low on funds and keen to get to the Gold Coast on the Sunday. I asked Mark if he wanted to visit the lighthouse and lookout but he wasn't too keen and I had seen it before so we hit the road and before long we were passing into Queensland, and then back onto the Gold Coast.

So that really concludes this section of Australia for me for now. I've still got more to go but that will have to wait for oncoming trips that will appear after this entry. I'm sure there will be more of what I get upto on the Gold Coast as well. Its been been an awesome few months.
