Well unfortunately there isn't going to be a great deal to tell about Coffs Harbour and indeed the rest of the journey up to Byron Bay as we were well and truly hampered by some pretty heavy duty wet weather. We decided to stay at the Aussitel Backpackers closer to the harbor itself partly for the social aspect as the weekend was upon us but mainly due to the torrential rain. The backpackers was a fairly social establishment and the people running it were friendly, helpful and heaps of activities to recommend - but not in the rain.

We had a pretty brief look around the town, before heading down to the marina. We had been told Mutton Bird Island was worth a look, but we decided against it due to the shady weather. There was a BBQ that night and Mark and Myself worked our way through a case of beer. The night was rounded off with a some poker with a few others from the hostel. I quickly found myself out of "chips" after betting high on stupid hands early.

The next day the weather wasn't too much better but after a small break we made the trek off to Mutton Bird Island, which was pretty wind swept and pretty barren - nothing really much to write home about, maybe during the months when the whales migrated past it would have faired better. After the island we decided to head out of Coffs and venture further north somehow getting lost and completely missing the one attraction that could have been Coffs saving grace (or final nail)- the Big Banana. With the weather still rough at best we decided to head straight up to Byron and make the most of our saturday night.
