The gardens of Versailles stretch for miles.  They are beautifully manicured and, in the French tradition, you can't walk on the grass.  In the end we opted to take a ride on the "Petite Train" which took us down to the Petite Trianon and boy, did we feel every single cobblestone we drove over!

The Petite Trianon was a quaint and beautiful house just outside Versailles.  It was given as a gift to Marie- Antoinette by Louse XVI and was her private sanctuary from the French court; no-one could visit unless invited by her.  It is in such contrast to Versailles - there are still paintings and sculptures, but on a much smaller scale.  The garden is quaint and relaxing; I can see it would have been a wonderful refuge for her.  That is until she was captured and beheaded.  It seems strange to remember that after wandering through her boudoir.
