Aloha from Hawaii!!
As soon as i put my backpack down in the room i hit Waikiki beach. It was so good getting into a bikini after a month in chilly New Zealand.
I flew into Honolulu airport and decided to stay on O'ahu island as i only had five days in Hawaii.
I vistied Pearl Harbour and the USS Arizona Memorial, which is one of the battle ships that was sunk during the Japanese attack of the harbour in 1941 which catapulted the US into the 2nd World war. The memorial was literally ontop of the Arizona and as the water was so clear you could see the battle ship. There were lots of oil bubbles rising to the surface, which has been leaking since 1941, the Americans seem to think they symbolise the tears of the 2500 people that died on the ship.
Although Waikiki beach had lovely white sand and clear blue seas, in was really overcrowded and towered by high rise hotels. It was really "touristy", so i decided to do a tour of the island. It was definitly worth it!!! The places that i visited looked how i imagined Hawaii would, beautiful beaches lined with palm trees. I first went along the south east of the island and stopped at some secluded beaches there. Then we went through the centre of the island where all the pineapples are grown. We stopped of at this cove where there were turtles swimming in the sea, later on we stopped of at a beach where there were 3 massive turtles which were amazing. We then went up to the North shore (where Jack Johnson lives!!) and watched the sunset at sunset beach. On the way through the island, the guide was showing us where the different parts of "Lost" is filmed. They were there filming at this beach, but there were security surrounded it, so we coldn't get anywhere near.
Only in America! I couldn't quite beleive one night as i was walking through Waikiki that there was a "Spam Jam" on. It is as stupid as it sounds, there were loads of stalls selling any type of meal possible that you could make out of spam. They were even selling Spam T shirts and hats (people were actually paying money), there was even a giant walking spam tin, like i said, only in America!!!
The rest of my time was spent chilling on the beach!!!
