The night of our departure from Devonport, we need a quick bite before we get on the Spirit of Tasmania.  One stop to Woolworths and a stop in a park later, we are fighting the seagulls off our dinner.
Sitting and eating a hot chook sandwich, washed down with Tasmanian apple juice, I am realizing that this is our last meal on Tasmanian shores.
It was cold, the wind was biting, but our last journey up through the western wilderness en route to Devonport is no less beautiful.
We chose to drive through the sparsely populated west coast to reach Devonport, and though the towns were less than interesting, the mountain landscape and glacial lakes were enough to inspire even those who can't stand the cold weather.  Though we didn't stay in Queenstown, a drive through was enough for me to realize the devastating effects of humans on the natural landscape.  It seemed abandoned, bald and devoid of warmth.  Strahan was a little too squeaky clean and a little put on, but it is a major stopping point for tourists due to the fact that the Gordon River Cruises and Western Wildnerness train rides leave from here.
Cradle Mountain however, was a different story.  We made a special trip in hope of just a small window of agreeable weather and visibility, but that didn't happen.  Something completely different happened actually.
Upon arrival in the parking lot, we decided to sit in our Holden and eat ham and cheese sandwiches, in wonderment of the falling sleet, and falling snow...
Snow.
Seriously.
