Where I stayed
Taman Caliandra Villa
After a morning swim and a continental breakfast Ken and I went for a walk around Seminyak in search for market stalls – similar to the ones we saw in Kuta so I could do some souvenir shopping. Fail. Seminyak is like the ‘posh’ area of Bali not dirty touristy Kuta, so all we came across were cute little boutique stores but we still had fun taking in the local sights and smells.
An hour later we got back to the Villas and Bee and I decided to head out for a manicure and a
pedicure. We had a couple of hours till our driver arrived to take us to the next villa so we had plenty of time…right? Maybe not… We walked out onto the main street and came across a beauty spa at the end of our road, they quoted us a half hour wait and an hour to do us both. Neither of us could be bothered waiting half an hour so we set of in search for more… the next place we walked into was very expensive , 300,000rupiah each!! Ummmm no. Not when the last
place quoted us, aprox 120,000rupiah each! So we went on our merry way round the corner and found another place that could take us in straight away. They quoted us an hour. So we are
both sitting there chatting away waiting for our pedicures and this boy sits at my feet! At first I was a little taken aback but he was soooooooo good. He did a really great job. Although I did feel a lil uncomfortable when he was blowing on my toes!! I still don’t know why!! Bee had a lady who was also very good. Both had a lot of pride in their work. Unfortunately they were also running on Balinese time and when we looked up at the clock we saw that it was 1 o’clock! Already!! CRAP!! The driver was arriving to pick us up at the villas at 1! So we ran, we ran about half a km back to the villas. No one runs in Bali, in fact no one even walks fast in Bali so we had a lot of crazy looks when we were racing back to the villa in 36 degree heat and 100% humidity!! Haha We raced in to the Villa and boy did we cop it – but we both had pretty nails – so it was totally worth it! Tehehe.
Our new Villas were in Uluwatu, out towards the Monkeys we visited on day two. This Villa is more traditional and off the beaten track in the rainforest and had a bigger pool! (YUS!) As it is more secluded and out of the way we even get our own in house staff to help us! (Which takes a bit of getting used too). After a quick tour and allocation of rooms we decided to order some lunch as by this stage it was 3pm and none of us had eaten. Ed (Mandy’s husband) then arrived just after lunch and we all spent the rest of the afternoon in and by the pool. Way cool as this pool was also a lot deeper so we could do BOMBS!!! (Yaaaaaaaaay!)
Oh and we also fitted in a small walk to the nearest supermarket to stock up on Balinese junk food and bottled water. I think it was about a km away? It took us about 20mins to walk there, but we were walking slowly in the heat and stopped to talk to the local children – who might I add also spoke a bit of Japanese!! They were so cute. I found Uluwatu was a lot cooler than Seminyak. I think because we were on higher ground and in the trees?
Dinner time came by and we all decided on a seafood dinner in Jimaran Bay on the beach. And by dinner I mean feast. The spread we were served was HUGE! But we did pay for it. The total bill came to just over 4,000,000 rupiah…! The food was really good tho. But the atmosphere was nowhere near as nice as the first place we went to on Day 2. Bee and I sat with our feet up of
the sand as there were soooooo many lil crabs crawling over our feet it was just too creepy and ticklish!
Full puku’s and a big day ahead of us the following day we headed home for an early night. We got home and after everyone went to bed I went around turning off all the lights where I encountered monster sized Geckos’, frogs, praying mantis, moths, red dragon flies, spiders everything!! They breed them large over here!!
