Between the evening news and seeing a facebook entry saying 'the Northern Lights are out NOW"! I dragged myself out to join every other person with a digital camera in Anchorage into the cold clear night . . .and tested out the new camera. .. While most northern lights photos are 15-30 seconds long, these northern lights were so bright that these shots were taken with the "Hand Held Twilight" automatic setting on my camera which 5 exposures so quick you can hand hold the camera (although these were on a tripod).
I would do things different after seeing them enlarged . . . but based on the fact that they always say to "Get away from the city lights" and they were brilliant looking straight into a full moon with bright streetlights . . .
And dazzled over the city of Anchorage. I only remember seeing such bright lights twice before . . .once on Big Lake in the fall off 2002 and once in the late 80's .. .
