In the morning I went down to the beach and got a henna tattoo . . what fun!

The art in Puerto Vallarta was very similar to the art in other areas of Mexico that I have been. However the bead art was something to behold!

First they carve an item out of wood and then coat it with beeswax and then press the small beads into the wax one at a time by first sliding them onto needles and then pressing them one at a time onto the wax.

At the trade shows there were small scale reproductions of the Castillo's we saw at night .. the little models were almost as much work to do as the large versions because of all the tiny knot work required.

And we really did go to Mexico for the Semposium Seminars  . . .

Unfortunately between a poor sound system and the people with there translation machines turned up so loud you could hear the translations 20 feet away . . and the people with translators sitting beside them telling them what was being said so loud you could not hear the speakers . . .I was not able to appreciate what was being said . ..and will probably have to read the ISF handout book in order to actually learn or remember anything I heard. . .The Symposium folk might should conscider designating All English/Non English areas so all the translators can talk as loud as they want and have the balance of the people be able to hear what is going on.

Pyro Overload.

What is better than a fireworks show??

Three fireworks shows in one night!

From Show One

This Butterfly was attached to the bottom of a girondole and rose gracefully into the air under a huge girondole. It was probably 15 feet wide!

From Show Two

In the US we rarely shoot rockets because the sticks falling is concidered dangerous .. .here it is a "Blessing" to get hit with falling stars, sticks or debris . . . these rockets (along with 100's more!) were lined up between the crowd and the ocean along the boardwalk about 25 feet from the boardwalk itself. They were angled twords the ocean . . . and every one had a kick ass salute!

Show 3 - Notice the spectators in the tiny boat . . . and nobody cared. . .

This show was NOT part of the scheduled ISF Fireworks shows . . or maybe it was part of the show that did not go . . .but it WAS to Music . .down the Boardwalk from where our show was . .  and was after MIDNIGHT . . . there were still lots of people to see it, but most had gone home.

But considering the show I did not go to the night before . .. it was a treat.

wow
Jackie, those fireworks must have been spectacular! Looks like ou had a great time in paradise. A word of caution about your 'henna' tattoo, though. It appears to be black, and there is no such thing as black henna. If it was black, it is a coal tar based dye called PPD (paraphenaline-diamine) and can cause severe allergic reactions, anything from contact dermatitis to liver failure. It is a strong sensitizer, so even if you came away unscathed from this one, your chances of reaction are now more than double should you do it again. PPD is also an ingredient in many hair dyes, so dying your hair is now potentially dangerous. For more information, go to Hennapage.com and click the 'black henna' link, or do a Google search for 'black henna'.
Thank you for sharing pictures of your trip, looks like it was really spectacular!
