The headstone of Larry's Great Grandparents Henry Clay Mattingly and Susanah Mattingly,

as well as Henry's brother Ralf Mattingly at the St. Charles Cemetery at St. Marys Kentucky

What makes the photo special is that we did not know where in the  cemetery it was and of course it was only one grave away from the farthest away from the car that it could be.

What makes the photo interesting is that the actual headstone is made of sugar dolomite and the words were almost totally illegible.

I ended up doing a headstone rubbing of it (which is a very long story of it's own because I did not have what it took to do it with me.

Then I took the rubbing to KINKO' and reduced it down to fit 8.5 x 11 so I could scan it. Took it into Photoshop and picked up the black only overlayed it on the photo and skewed it to fit the angle of the photograph. And dropped the opacity so it looked natural.

Resulting in what could be the only decent picture to be had of Larry's grandfathers headstone. At least the only one that you can read.

There were vertually hundreds of Larry's relatives and ancestors burried in the St Charles Cemetery.
