The last full day in Costa Rica we had time to check out a tiny bit of San Jose between a dentist appointment and my post op visit to make sure it was ok to return home.

wikipedia states San Josť is the sixth most important destination in Latin America, according to The MasterCard Global Destinations Cities Index 2012.In the global ranking, San Jose obtained the 15th position among the world’s top 20 fastest growing destination cities by visitor cross-border spending.

With medical tourism being one of San Jose's major attractions, and all medical facilities and doctors accepting plastic, I can attest I contributed my share to San Jose's economy.

Though few people live in the city center, it is the most important working area of the country, which brings in more than a million people daily.

The majority of these people come to the city on busses, and the only reasonable way for tourest to get around the city is by taxi. The sea of red taxi's remind me of the waves of yellow taxi's in NYC.

The Mercado de Artesamias was a short walk from the square above the museum on the Avenue

The only market I have ever seen with art products piled higher or tighter was the "Public Market" in Phenom Phen in Cambodia, but the Mercado was cleaner since it was 100% art and tourist products. The prices were reasonable and you could talk them down about 10% with only a little effort. There were over 100 shops, many of them had the same products, however there were many individual shops that had unique items.

I became extremely thirsty and stopped at an open front pastry shop to get a bottle of water and found the most decadent cakes and pastries, surpassed only by the Chinese birthday cakes found on our trip to Luyang China. The frosting looked shiny and lite unlike the heavy frostings found in the US bakeries.
