We planned to wake up early to get a good start at Versailles but we managed to spend the entire morning planning our trip to Amsterdam and trying to find any hostel or hotel that had availability for the days we wanted. Everything was twice as expensive as we thought and the best priced place we could find was actually a hotel rather than a hostel, so it turned out we would be getting our own room yet again.

We finally left the hotel at 11:30am and figured we could still do Versailles if we hurried. When we arrived back at the train station we investigated a little further and found that our rail passes did work for the trains to the outer parts of Paris! So apparently on the first night we wasted 24 Euro on a train that we should have gotten for free. Someone at that station should be given a bit more training. At least we didn't have to pay to get out to versaille and back though.

When we reached Versailles it was gigantic! Those French really know how to build a palace; it makes Hampton Court look like a barn, and to think it started as a hunting lodge for Louis XIV. We waited in line for tickets just to get to a machine that was broken, dang. We just jumped over to the one beside us though, haha. The first half of the palace was like being in a human sandwich. A doorway is only so big and when you put 5-6 tour groups on the other side who stop to look at a painting it gets very cramped, word to the wise, never go on a weekend and if you do, go before noon, damn us!! It wasn't until we hit the hall of mirrors that the crowds seemed to thin out and we got a somewhat crowdless picture.

By the time we had made it through the palace we had about an hour and half before they would close so we headed to the gardens only to find that they were closing early because of a night fountain-lightshow, damn our unpunctualness. We took some pictures of a small garden anyhow.

Our plan for the next day was the Louvre because it is free on the first Sunday of every month. So we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep so we could wake up early.
