We arrived in Dublin around 10am and waited for my (obviously, James') parents to meet us at the airport to pick up their car they rented. When they arrived they didn't see us so I snuck up behind them to surprise them. Mom of course grabbed a hold of me and was almost in tears she was so happy to see us. Of course we all hugged and told eachother how good it was to see eachother. It had seemed so long since we'd seen anybody up to that point but when we actually saw them it seemed like it had only been a couple days.

We were all very excited to see eachother and got to telling eachother what has been going on in our lives. Afterwards we went to get my parents car from the rental place. The rough plan was to leave Dublin and head west to Galway because it is supposed to be very beautiful. It took my dad a little while to get the hang of driving on the wrong side of the road but he really did awesome. We tried to go around a toll road outside of Dublin but managed to get royally lost, turns out the toll was only $2. We stopped for lunch at a pub and because it wasn't quite noon and they weren't serving meals yet we ended up with banger sandwiches (two peices of plain bread with cut up sausage inside!) and soup. The soup was great but Mom and Dad weren't too impressed with the sandwiches...by this time Jackie and I will eat almost anything so we were ok, haha.

We drove for about two hours before getting to Galway (of course we smartened up and just took the tool road). We found a hostel right away with a four bed room where we could rest our heads then went out to explore the town. We walked down a pedestrian street and my mom couldn't help but go into every open and closed door that she saw just to see what was inside. Her energy really recharged us and was contagious in making us excited to sight see again!

Once we got her through the street we made our way to the harbour to see the old Spanish Arch, one of the only remaining parts of the old town wall. We continued wandering down the pier and just took it all in...then we spotted a huge pile of garbage and decided to wander back through the streets, haha.

We decided to not splurge on our first night and eat in at the hostel so we picked some stuff up for supper and made pasta for ourselves in the crazy busy hostel kitchen. We were worried we would have to stand and eat and felt bad that we were gonna have to make mom and dad stand and eat there first supper with us but thankfully a table cleared just as we finished.

Mom spotted a poster for live music at a pub just down the road so that evening we went to check it out. It was just a small pub with one guy and his guitar playing but there were a few people there and we sat up by the bar. We just sat and chatted and got caught up with eachother. At one point the bartender took out a metal bottle with plastic wrap over it and four small plastic shot glasses and treated us to a shot of his mystery concoction! It ended up tasting not bad and then he told us it was made of jaggermeister, beer, some kind of black cherry syrup and maybe something else to but I can't remember.
