Our first full day in London we managed to get up at a decent time and were out of the hostel by 9:30 (we're pretty sure the time change helped with that). We took the train into the city centre to the London Bridge station. The Borough Markets are right near the station so we walked through them for a bit and checked out all the meat, baked goods, fruits & veggies, and everything else on offer. We had breakfast before we left the hostel so we weren't hungry and didn't end up getting anything. A recreation of a small ship that apparently had a very short captain and crew was also nearby so we walked over to take a quick look at that.

Afterward we walked across London Bridge, wondering why it was just a normal, unspectacular bridge. We looked across the water and saw Tower Bridge and thought maybe people just got the two mixed up because Tower Bridge is an amazing sight with its two massive towers on either side. (It wasn't until the next day when we were talking to James' cousin, Cory, and he mentioned "London Bridge is falling down" that we realized how kind of retarded we were, haha.) At the other side we wandered around for a while before finally finding our way to the Tower of London and bought our tickets and went in. We spent a few hours wandering all around the complex and reading the displays. The Crown Jewels, one of the big displays, was awesome (so much better than the ones in the Forbidden City! haha). The diamond in the royal septor 'The star of Africa' (the biggest diamond in the world) is literally the size of a fist, not shitting you!! And the 'Second star of Africa' is on one of the queens' ceremonial crown or something like that; it is the size of a smaller fist. There were also crowns and septors for the prince, princesses and other kings and queens.

After we left the tower we headed towards the British museum and had about 1 hour of walking around before it closed so we just walked and saw as many exhibits as we could. After that we just walked to some bookstores and finally picked up a shoestring book for Europe and then retired back to the hostel.
