Since we couldn't see the volcanoes we kept heading north and went to Taupo and checked out Hooka falls on our way through. After debating whether we should go on a river jet boat tour we decided that we would just go to Rotorua to go to 'Hells Gate’ geothermal spa and relax a little bit (because this trip is really starting to wear on us). We first got a campsite in town since we were in need of a shower facility and then took a short walk to see an underwater spring.  Apparently it never changes temperature and if you throw a stone in it it will slowly float down due to the force of the water coming up.

Afterward at Hell’s Gate we first took a walk around there geothermal park. There were lots of sulphur pools that were bubbling and boiling, some at over 100 degrees, throughout the park and Jackie couldn’t seem to get used to the smell. Next, we got to sit in a mud bath and rub it all over us to exfoliate our skin for 20 minutes, very cool. After the bath was done they had us take a FREEZING cold shower before heading into a mineral pool where it was somewhere around 106 degrees Fahrenheit.

After having a shower and cleaning up we headed back to our campground and had supper and watched some T.V. before heading to bed.
