As planned we got up in the morning and went to the Hanmer Thermal Pools. We found out right away that these are no hot springs. They use mineral water which is suppose to help your skin and all that but every pool we went in we found to be bath temperature, and after sitting for a bit it felt like a bath that was getting cold! Finally though we found a couple small pools that had the hot water in them and of course they felt great!!

There were also a couple slides and a bowl thing that you ride around in a tube in which were ok but not worth the extra $10 each just for access to them, although it was pretty chilly out as well so we weren't really in the mood for running up outdoor stairs soaking wet and being cooled by the breeze.

Afterward we hit the road again and just drove the rest of the day. We had went up north of Christchurch to just do the two towns and then our plan was to go south and back up north on the south island by the west coast route. So since we were backtracking we wanted to make up some miles. That night we got lucky again and found a side road just off a bridge and this time found a completely hidden little clearing by the river. We'd become two bums living down by the river in our van!!
