cant write using cap letters cause im using a french keyboard, dont know how...ha Well, oh there it is HHHHHHAAAAAA
Well it has been a while since my last post. We do not have access to the internet in azove so i had to take a bush taxi to a small town named dogbo. I left off with my last post with great anticipation of going to azove to meet and stay w my host family. Azove is a town to the west of cotonou about six miles from togo border. All the business consultants are stationed here for training. Training is rigorous. I go from eight am to seven or eight pm each night. My training consists of language classes, tech classes, health classes, tda classes, site based meeting w entrepreneurs etc.
So now on to the good stuff. We arrive in azove on a friday. This was two weeks ago. For most people here, this is the first ti,e they have seen or interacted w an american. The people here like to call us yovo which means whitey in fon and adja which are local languages here. So my "maman" is waiting for me in the staging area. First impression, she is a large woman, maybe 275 300 pounds easy! The rest of the fam came to pick me up in their car. If anyone remembers my sisters car, hers is a porsche compared to this! My family is great. Two boys a girl and maman and papa. The family name is lonmadon. Papa is a baker. I have fresh bread all the time! Meals are good here. I have quit asking what the meat is. Istill hear the dog barking so i know i havent eaten him yet....ha Dont know if it is the fact that i have to boil and filter my water for drinking, sleeping under a mosquito net, taking malaria medicine, or watching the ten inch lizards, three inch cockroaches, and three inch spiders crawling across my walls, i think to myself what in the heck am i doing here! It is so strange cause amongst all these things i am happy, truly happy and content. I am having one big adventure. Dont wanna forget to mention, i have a latrine. its kinda nuts, basically a hole in the ground. I take bucket showers cause i have no running water. I like them though. Somehow the ice cold water gets me goin in the morning. It is so hot here! i mean so hot! cant even describe it. I find out in two weeks my post for the next two years. Excited about that. There is so much i wanna tell you guys but i only have one hour on here. Electricity only runs a certain nuber of hours here each day. Not to mention the fact that i am using a french keyboard. Som letters are in different places. Stupid french, always have to be different...ha Send me mail. Keep in mind thqt i am in africa, everything is slow here...real slow. Have patience. Garvin you will be happy to know that is one thing i am learning, patience. oh yeah and how to sweat, i am pretty good at that. Guys i am safe, happy and loving this.
Hopefully i will get back in two weeks or so
