vidal to the desert.... stayed 28 miles east of 29 palms.

This was a very difficult day of riding

I got an early start because I was going to be facing the winds going thru the desert.

72 miles
33 max
10.3 ave
7 hours ride time
temp hit 102 (it was hot but I dont think it was that hot)

The first part of my day was actually fun because for the first 10 miles I had a helping wind. I was absolutely flying and then I made a turn and started to head uphill into the wind thru sand dunes.  The sand dunes turned into a sand storm. I actually had people asking me if I was okay and i needed anything.  I felt pretty good but if that same guy would have asked 30 minutes later I would have gotten a ride to the next junction.  I had my lunch on the side of the rode and took an hour nap in the sand under a bush (quite comfortable).

The winds were blowing so hard that a gust would throw my bike in the middle of the lane and all I could do was hold on.  It was quite an experience but hopefully I dont have to go thru it often.

Slept in another beatiful setting.  The foothills of the desert, no cars, amazing stars, half of a moon, isolated, no cell phone , no nothing and I loved the traquility of my surroundings.

Being in the desert for extended periods of time really does something to humans.  I dont know what it is but I dont think I will call someone crazy for living in the desert anymore.  Even under harsh conditions it can be a peaceful place.
