Wow!!! I cannot believe it's 2010! I rang in the new year with a wonderful, peaceful night last night. I had an amazing and FUN sendoff party at Neil's house Wednesday night and I got to see lots of my favorite people. My two best friends Coligny and Liz came, and my two roommates Kelsey and Kirsten drove out from their hometowns to say goodbye! Almost all of my Amherst friends were there and I had a blast... it was so nice of Neil to host that for me. But anyway, by New Year's Eve we were both a little partied out. So, on the biggest party night of the year, we had a homecooked meal with my family at my house in Hatfield then settled in to a 3 1/2 hour long game of Monopoly with my parents. Haha :) Actually there was nothing I would have rather been doing.

Then Neil and I headed back to his house in Amherst and our two friends Grant and Haleigh came over. We had a really nice couple of hours just drinking champagne and talking and of course toasting 2010! I got to wake up next to my baby on the first day of the new year. What could be better?  Today I am just taking it easy...having some friends from high school over tonight to watch one of our old plays. Right now I am drinking tea and downloading the CDs that Kirk and Kels so kindly made for me!! I really wanted my roomies to make me CDs to take with me on my trip...they have great taste in music. I wish I could have gotten some from Chris (aka gotten to say goodbye to him)..oh well. I might see them tomorrow when I go to Westminster.

So the deadline of my departure is fast approaching! My dad and I are flying to Dallas on Monday night at 6 pm, from Hartford CT.  Practically every second until then I have filled with trying to spend more time with everyone I love. Like I said, tonight some high school friends are coming over...then tomorrow I'm going to Westminster to my cousin's house to play with them for the day (maybe seeing Kirk, Kels, and Chris too???), Saturday night I might be having dinner with Neil and his mom, then Neil and I are having a little date night for our last night together (sad!!), Sunday during the day I'm having some family time then going to a Camp Norwich reunion at the YMCA, then Coligny and Liz are spending the night at my house... Monday I'll just be getting ready to go and spending time with Mommy...... and Monday afternoon we'll pick Sarah up from school and head to the airport!! Yikes!

It's going to be hard to say goodbye to all these people, but on the other hand, I'm SO EXCITED!! I just realized that at this time next week, I will be IN Puntarenas. I can't believe it! Everything I've been looking forward to all semester is so close to being a reality. I can't wait for that feeling of "I'm finally here!" I can't wait to step in the Pacific ocean for the first time; to meet my host family and my new classmates; to start learning more Spanish; to be in hot weather; to explore; to ride my bike and take pictures... so many things to look forward to.  It's interesting that this total lifestyle change is happening right at the beginning of 2010. I know it's really the last year of this decade, not the first year of a new decade, but it feels like the first year of a new decade... 2010...just seems like a fresh start! And it's not like I feel the need to start over in the sense that anything is wrong with me or my life right now. It just feels like the start of an adventure! Which it is! :)

PS I'm quitting smoking. For real! Woohoo... hooray. That's a HUGE step towards the healthy body / healthy mind goal of my trip. Um..Mom..you probably thought I already did quit smoking... well I had my last cigarette EVER on December 31 around 1 am on the steps of Butterfield with Kirk, Kels, and Liz. What an awesome last cigarette. But I'm glad it is my last!! I like smoking too much. It just had to be a decision I made for myself and I've been planning it for awhile. Go me!

Happy New Year everyone!! Countdown til TX: 3 days. Countdown til CR: 6 days.

Dad on

(I thought you had quit, too...but, good for you. Good luck, I hear it's tough to stay quit). I love reading your journal entries, keep it up.
