We woke up in a lock this morning, before cruising on along the Danube, with Austria on one side and Slovakia on the other for part of the trip. The terrain was very flat to begin with, becoming hillier in mid morning. David and I sat on the open top deck for quite a while, and watched Bratislava as it passed by. We will be visiting it tomorrow, and it looks like an interesting old city. As we approached Vienna, we noticed many very small cottage-like buildings, built on stilts, along the river. There were a number of commercial boats on the river as well as quite a few vessels on river cruises like ours.
We arrived in Vienna during dinner, and immediately after we finished eating, we headed to the Lichtenstein Palace for a private concert. The Palace is Baroque in style, with vast, recently restored murals decorating the ceilings and walls, as well as elaborate plasterwork. The concert featured Viennese composers, and was primarily orchestral music, with several operatic singers and a ballet to the Blue Danube.
The forecast for the next few days makes it sound as if the wonderful weather is going to continue, which will be perfect for our travel.
