To Salisbury for Tea

A few weeks ago, we attended The Piedmont Dance Theater's production, The Nutcracker, and in the program, there was this advertisement for a tea room, Caniche.  I have been dying to have a full service afternoon tea, so I scheduled a reservation for two on the afternoon of New Years' Eve. 

It was a blustery cold day, yet the sun was beaming and the sky was a crisp blue as we drove through downtown Salisbury.  The tea room is on the second floor of an old fashioned old town style building, with multiple half moon windows from floor to ceiling.  Our server, dressed in a delicate white eyelet apron, was helpful as she carefully guided us through our menus.  We ordered a Royal Tea, which included bottomless pots of tea, scones, sandwiches, and savories, and a perfect addition for New Years' Eve, a glass of champagne for each of us. 

Yes, poor Phil was the only man in the house, but he didn't seem to mind.  Since we are tentatively planning a trip to London, I think he felt it was a preparatory experience, since he knows full well that I will drag him to an afternoon tea in the city where afternoon tea is a part of everyone's daily experience.
