"I went on down to the Audubon Zoo and they all asked for you!" This was the first time we had visited the zoo since Katrina devastated the region, and it was such a pleasure to behold! The zoo is landscaped beautifully with towering palm trees and tropical plants. We first stopped for lunch at at little place called ZooFari. From there we visited the elephants, monkeys, and sea lions. It is refreshing to see such wild animals in a natural setting, with fresh vegetation and living in conditions that are quite similar to their natural habitats. When we stopped for a photo with the Rhinos, I was stung by an evil caterpillar...ouch! After the swelling of the sting subsided, we headed off to view the alligators, and there, we saw a bully-gator bite the tale of his smaller counterpart. Quite exciting!
I must say, mid April is the perfect time of the year for this attraction because the sweltering heat has not yet engulfed the region. The temperature was pleasant and the skies a deep blue. The animals were hospitable, and the scenery serene! Too bad we are flying home tomorrow!
