During all of our lifetime living near New Orleans, neither my husband nor myself ever ate at the famous and elegant Commander's Palace Restaurant.  Thus, we decided we needed to eat at this culinary gem, while visiting the Big Easy this time around.

The restaurant is located Uptown, off of St. Charles Avenue.  Its exterior is painted a bright turquoise blue, cheering all passersby.  Upon entry (we had a noon reservation), all of the serving staff were lined up to greet their clientele.  I felt like a celebrity with all of their eyes smiling in salutation, yet I felt a bit self-conscious from the direct attention I was receiving.  It is not everyday that I am treated with such reverence; however, this restraunt provides the most upscale dining in New Orleans, so such respect and friendliness from the staff is an expectation for those who frequent the culinary palace.  Our hostess guided us up the old wood stairs to the Garden Room.  This space is a dining area with large floor to ceiling windows overlooking massive oaks and tropical vegetation, giving the feel that one is eating in a majestic tree house of sorts.  The interior columns were entangled in vine-like embellishments and the tables were dressed in white linens.

Since we had not enjoyed the Orlenean delicacy, crawfish, in quite some time, my husband and I ordered the very same entree, paneed veal with crawfish over grits.  To wet our palettes, we indulged in martinis, and to finish, we ate the most extraordinary desserts...my husband, Commander's famous Bread Pudding Souffle, and I the most angelic Strawberry Shortcake made with homemade whipped cream and plump strawberries sandwiched in a biscuit...I can still taste it!

After filling our intestines with the most delicious food imaginable, we headed home to mom and dad's house before meeting my husband 's family for a late dinner.  It is so good to be back in this  charming place!
