We decided to venture off to shore today, so we signed up for an excursion to a zoo and gardens, and we rode a tour van around the island, where we were able to see an island fortress, as well as The Queen's Staircase.

We began our tour at the island fortress, where we were able to explore its walls, cannon, and views of the Caribbean escape.  A picturesque old water tower added to the rustic ambiance of the island setting.  From there we walked down the steep steps of the Queen's Staircase.  This was a public stair way built to honor Queen Victoria, as the Bahamas were a part of the great empire of her majesty.

Afterward, we boarded the van yet again for a drive across the island to the Ardastra Zoo and Gardens.  The most exciting part?  The flamingo show!  A few dozen flamingos have been trained to march drills by a most diligent zoo drill sergeant.  Not only do they follow his commands, but they are so well adapted to their audience, that they even take time out of their busy schedules to model for human spectators.  Flash away, paparazzi, these flamingos live for the lights!

When we returned to the boat, we relaxed on deck for a while, then napped, of course, and freshened up for our best meal yet.  Tonight we ate at the french restaurant, indulging in delicate entrees and delectable desserts!  Then, we made our way to a night club playing big band standards, where we cuddled in a dark corner and admired the people dancing on the floor.

Today included the best elements of cruising: sight seeing, relaxation, great food, and great entertainment!
