Highlight, believe it or not, was having a fight with a HUGE grasshopper. What an exciting life I lead. Fricking hot and sticky today.

There are 3 new volunteers arriving - 2 today - so this is my last day in the library. It's pretty much as sorted as it's going to be. I'm being prepped for office work with Glenda, since Suzanne is leaving on Saturday.

The two new vols are from AFS, a organisation like Project Trust without the age restriction. All the vols are with AFS.

This makes it kind of interesting, since Project Trust's policy is for their vols to get the same wages as a local working in the same place. This isn't my decision and I certainly didn't come here for the money. I had to raise 3500 to come here, there is no way I'm making money from this. Project Trust has discussed this policy with Kids Haven, so they know about it and must have agreed to it prior to Katie and me arriving. I don't really mind if I don't get paid, but since we are the first PT vols to come to Kids Haven we can't make it difficult for the next lot. The reason Project Trust has the policy is to properly integrate the vols to the placement, to give them an incentive to stick with it and not just wander off whenever they feel like it, and also to encourage the project to treat the vols as a part of the set up, almost as staff.

AFS vols don't get paid. So I think it causes a problem since KH doesn't know where we stand. We are more than voluntary, so they have some kind of hold on us, but we are still 'volunteers' so we aren't staff as such. Fortunately the AFS vols don't have a problem with it.

Anyway, the new vols are Geraldine, or Ge, and Leen. They are both from Belgium, but Ge is French-speaking and Leen is Dutch-speaking. With Marina gone, we are up to 7 vols. Suzanne is going, but another vol is also arriving soon. At the moment, it's just me and Katie in our room, which is nice cos it gives us a bit more space.
