Day the Sixteenth - in which, as the title suggests, a madman accosts us at the market, we chill, and discover there is such a thing as a bad avocado smoothie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had breakfast (what is this thing breakfast?) at the hotel which involved some toast which a monkey with blight blue balls stole out of Stef's hand. Tried to get a film of a fish eagle in flight - it was sat in the tree by our room so to make it take off I threw a lump of pumice in its general direction. It didn't look impressed and flew behind a tree so Stef lost slight of it through the camera view. So much for that. I would like to stress now that I didn't throw the rock at the rare bird, just towards it.
Morning looked like this -
Took some other pictures of birdlife and plants in the hotel grounds. It really is pretty here.
Wildlife viewing over, we walked into town to get bus tickets and find a bank, an internet cafe, and some pastry thingies. The bank wasn't a problem, the bus tickets were - we were told just to rack up tomorrow morning early - and the internet is off all over Ethiopia apparently. We also checked out the market, which turned out to be very good, all muddy and authentic. We could have bought a donkey if we were so inclined.
Sacks of different staples lined narrow little alleys, while the women who sold them chatted amongst themselves. We got lots of smiles and gestures to try and get us to buy their produce.
In the cloth section the light filtered through the material and created a nice effect:
And then we got to the sugarcane area and we had just taken this picture when we were set upon.
By a madman! He grabbed our arms and chattered at us very excitably. We kept trying to extract ourselves, but he was very persistent. He was harmless, but it was an odd experience. Eventually 2 policemen chased him off.
We bought some bread and tomatoes, then headed back to pack and chill out a bit. No sign of the volunteers from yesterday. We sat and read the guidebook to plan the next bit. We had kitfo (not that great and expensive) and fish again for dinner. Worst avocado juice award! As the evening progressed we discovered that there was a mozzie party going on under the table by our ankles.
Since the hotel is a fair distance from the station we arranged a taxi with reception. The guy tried to charge loads, but since we've already been in a taxi to get here, we know the rate. Being 5am we except it'll be a bit more, but not that much. That done we headed to our lovely big room for an early night.
