With "Hi guys, how are you today" starts every conversation here in Down Under.
Maybe you still remember us from the wedding in Leez Priory, we are Ivo's parents. Normally people go to Down Under to travel around this exceptional country and to go dolphin and whale watching. But our purpose was: Marriage Watching. We want to see, as good parents, with our own eyes, how this young married couple survived the famous first hundred days. Well we can assure you, after 8 days travelling with Ivo & Annemieke, that everything is OK. They still live on a pink cloud.
Not only Ivo & Annemieke but the whole atmosphere here in Australia is very relaxed. During our stay in Cairns we visited the rainforest in the North, this was a wonderfull experience. Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the reef is a wonder of nature. After 3 days in Cairns we started our trip of 2500km to Sydney. We spend a night in both Mission Beach and Townsville, before we arrived in Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Islands. Here we had our first snorkling experience on the Great Barrier Reef. With our first dive my mouth went open from amazement. But that is not a good idea when you are swimming in the sea. After two minutes we found the right technique and enjoyed the fabulous views of the corals. Now we understand that the Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Our next stop was in a little town called: 1770. It was there were Cpt Cook made his first step on Australia. On our way to Hervey Bay we passed "Rosedale" the difference between our town Roosendaal is that here the birds whistle and at home they cough.
We also visited the world famous Fraser Island. Fraser Island is the world largest sand island and the jeeps race of the beach with approx. 100km/h. It is very beautifull with pristine blue lakes and white beaches. Although very very crowded.
Whalewatching was absolutely amazing. We vewed a number of humpback whales that come to the coast here to give birth and raise their newborns before heading back to the cold waters near Antartica. I would just stay here in the warmth, but apparantly there is not enough food for them here.
Well guys if you want to see something, you have to work hard.
Or as Ivo says: Travelling around the world is a hell of a job, I am always happy when the weekend is there.
