Today was going to be 9 Hours of driving.  Driving with Canadians was awful.  My theory is that they're the nicest people if you can see their face - hiding behind their wheel, they can be as aggressive, oblivioius or frustrating as they want.  Still, we were excited to be back in the Land of the Free, where they always accept Visa, our cellphones work and we can get internet radio music.  We stopped at the duty free store before returning to the US.  I bought Kristina a little stuffed mountie beaver, we named him Mooseknuckle, he features in some of our pictures.

I finished the first leg of the trip back to America half an hour less than it should have taken.  Kristina's leg was considerably more arduous since she drove on a state road which was usually at most 50 MPH.   (It feels so good to not figure out km/h conversions)  She drove through the flat farms of Ogdensburg, NY and the tiny towns nearby.

Vermont was beautiful with its mountains in the skyline, the rock-walled road valleys, the lush trees all around and the water surrounding its bridges.  We actually pulled over to snap a few photos and Kristina did her best with action photography at the other points.  Then we discovered that the last Ben & Jerry's tour was at 5 and not 6... it was time to burn rubber again.  Speeding down the mountains was like something out of a Bond movie... if only I had an Aston Martin and not a Toyota Camry.

We got to the factory with time to spare.  The place was like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, colored in many pastels and smelling very sweet.  The ice cream doesn't get made on weekends, so the machines were all at rest unfortunately.  They did give us a sample tasting and then we went to visit the Flavor Graveyard.  This was where the retired flavors resided.  Each one was represented by a tombstone with a rhyming epitaph.  Kristina thought many of the flavors was a good idea.
