Hey everyone! I made it to Xiahe after a long day of travel. We left last night to head to the Xi'an train station and that was definitely an experience in itself. My friends and I have a phrase we like to use to describe the incredible crowded areas of China, "zenme zheme renao." Which basically means why is this place so crowded and bustling with noice and excitement, and thats really the best way to describe it. After hanging out at the station for an hour, barely able to move an inch, we boarded the train and headed for lanzhou. Even though the train was cramped and the bed was pretty gross, I enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to the ride back.
This morning we arrived in lanzhou and headed to breakfast. Everyone was really groggy cause no one could really sleep that well so the 5 hour ride to Xiahe was pretty much silent. When we got to Xiahe we visited the largest monastery here and had a tour of the temples. It is really beautiful and I have tons of pictures to upload when I get back! The city sits on a plain between several mountains so the scenery is amazing. The one thing I wasn't expecting though was the cold weather, I'm not sure what the temperature actually is but I would guess about 60's during the day and so cold at night. Unfortunatly, I had no idea we were going here so I didn't bring any long sleeve shirts or jackets so I'm going to have to tough it out the next few days.
I'll be in touch again soon!
