Hey,
So after spending a night in the fabulous port town Ratch Gia we got up early and caught the boat over to Phu Quoc island. The boat was named, no joke, Superdong but was actually pretty quick and comfortable, despite having a name more at home bestowed upon the lead character in a Playboy movie (not that i've ever watched one, i'm merely guessing).
When we got to the the island the boat dropped us off at the opposite side of the island to where we were staying and we were immediately surrounded by people trying to usher us into there mini-vans, one bloke followed us all the way up the peir until he told us how much he was charging for the short trip to the beach and we both burst out laughing in his face and told him where to go. Anyway, we managed to get one for not too much of a rip off in the end and they dropped us off at a very nice looking resort. Unfortunately it was too expensive so I left Emma having a drink and watching the backpacks while I set off down the beach in search of somewhere a bit more in our price range. This turned out to be far easier said than done, as every place I went to was not only a big resort (there's nothing else here), but was full as well. I was starting to seriously panick when I found a place that had a room for $19 a night, so I swallowed my pride and decided to cough up for the room.
It turned out in the end that we actually got a reasonable deal, the room is nice and we have free deckchairs etc on the beach as well as a swimming pool and with breakfast included its only about what we'd be paying anywhere so can't grumble.
We were quite simply horrified when for the first three days we could find nowhere any good to eat,but eventually we found a really nice restaurant run by a French chap so now we're sorted. During the day we've just been relaxing on the beach and getting crazily cheap massages (about a quid for an hour) whilst topping up our tan, which to Emma's delight have gone much darker very fast. So after a bit of a shakey start the island really has won us over and were having a thoroughly enjoyable time here.
See you all soon (roughly a week and a bit to be precise!!)
