Hello.

Finally met up with my parents two days ago and god its strange to see someone you know.
After the horrific journey down from thailand we spent a night in a small hostel and then went looking for a more suitable place for my parents to stay so that we could take them there when they arrived later that day. Looked at plenty of hotels and thay were all really nice but settled on one near the centre of Georgetown then went to wait for my parents at the shopping mall where we arranged to meet them.

The next day we visited the chocolate showroom of some posh chocolate company (emmas idea but a good one!) where we got to try all sorts of different chocolate with various fruits and flavours, they were gorgeous. After that we went for a tour around a famous mansion built by a chinese merchant in the 19th Century. It was really interesting with an enthusiastic guide explaining about the design of the house and the Feng Shui principles that guided it.

The next day we caught the ferry to Langkawi to show my parents the tropical island life as weel as the culture of  Penang. It was not without its troubles (fully booked ferry so two hour taxi ride to another port followed by an hour queing for tickets then another hour and a half waiting for the boat) but we got there in the end and after finding some nice accomodation at a good rate we enjoyed the rest of the day then had some much needed rest. Today we went to the aquarium and saw some amazing fish and enjoyed the duty free shopping on the Island (the whole place has been a duty free zone since 1981) where my parens treated me to a special edition bottle of Jack Daniels to go to my collection back home. There was some amazing stuff and its the cheapest I've ever seen anywhere in the world.

Anyway, going to go get a shower before we all go out for a couple of drinks so goodbye for now.

Marc

P.S. did i mention that my parents have decided to treat us to two nights in the five star Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok to finish the trip in december. Can't wait, wil be really nice to finish the trip in luxury after all these months of budget rooms. Not sure they will let me in though with my scruffy hair, smelly clothes and backpack but I'm sure i'll talk them round in the end!

Hi there again
Hi emma & marc,

Yet again more rivetting reports from you both, it just sounds so fabulous, especially the elephants, I always fancied going to the elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka myself, maybe oneday, had a nice but not as exotic week in portugal which will have to do for the time being.
I don't know how you are both going to cope with coming back to dreary old Coalville, especially in december.
I bet it was nice to see your folks though wasn't it Marc, their gift of the posh hotel sounds like a very nice way to round off your trip, to make the thought of coming home not quite so bad!
It's good that you will be able to visit Cambodia and Vietnam now, unexpectedly, but dont rush your trip though, make sure you still enjoy each place.

Take care then

love Auntie Karren & Uncle Paul
xxxxx
