The people were kind, generous and polite. I arrived with the stories echoing in my head of murder and mayhem and believed it once I had set my eyes on the tall barbed wire fences covered in red beetle nut spit, more protection than a Johannesburg Bank
I had booked myself into The Comfort Inn and confirmed my booking a week before I left Perth. On entering the steel gates of the Inn I found old yet neat and clean fibro buildings, after paying the private taxi 30 Kina (about twice what a Scarlet Taxi would charge) and enquired which room I should drop my gear in The lady behind the counted politely informed me a lady was extending her stay and has my room their fore being unavailable to me, I calmly said your kidding me! she offered me a Standard room instead of the Deluxe and on inspection found it was filthy and would find it difficult laying horizontal due to the size, at this time a gentleman arrived and suggested an alternative more to my liking, under suspicion but with no alternative I accepted his suggestion.
10 minuets latter a 4wd arrived to pick me up, inside was the darkest skinned lady I had ever seen. Dorothy was the kindest lady and over the next four days welcomed me with a smile several times a day. She took me to Lodge 10, owned by Mose who drove and picked me up from a late dinner at another hotel a few days latter. Lodge 10 is a brand new set of 20 units all clean, freshly painted, clean linen daily with a flat screen and foxtel. the best was free coffee and cooking facilities which suited me fine they would drop me off around town and always concerned about my well being

On the following days I only went out at night in a Scarlet Taxi yet in the day caught PMVs be careful what areas these go (See Lonely planet Guide) I did see a couple of robberies in these but no blood was drawn, I am a 100 kg reasonably fit male but in pairs you'll be fine and girls don't carry bags try a money belt or buy and tightly hold on to a billim
Final word, trust your own instinct 99.9% of locals are lovely
