Like giant steps on land, the road dipped lower and lower as we descended into the bayou. The elevation dropped off quick like a continental shelf on the seafloor. A sudden shot of adrenaline hit us simultaneously and we quickly became giddy and anxious like children headed to the zoo. The sun sank fast in the southern sky and we raced this falling sphere into the heart of Louisiana and toward the gulf, around Lake Ponchetrain. Another famous American landmark, Lake Ponchetrain is, in a word, huge. The Ponchetrain Bridge spans the length of the lake and running parallel to this massive structure which displays modern man's hustle, powerlines are built atop giant cement foundations which run to the bottom of the lake.

Then we descended into the city and saw the devastation first hand. Hitting the first exit in the city, we got off the freeway and drove into the shadowy streets of post-Katrina New Orleans...
