Last day. We drove from Pittsburgh to Antietam battlefield in Maryland. We toured the fields, a cemetery and Burnside Bridge. It was a much bigger place than I imagined, and a somber place when you reflect on the fact 23,000 people died here in a single day. Would have been nice to spend more time, but it was so HOT outside. We escaped to the comfort of our air conditioned car and drove the final leg of our trip. We took a quick detour to Harper's Ferry to add Virginia and West Virginia to our state tally.
Soon thereafter we arrived at Mahri and Matthew's apartment in Silver Spring. We all ate dinner out and soon Lucy and I took off for Solomons. We arrived to three friendly cats awaiting our return and a house full of boxes. Mahri had made our bed and left us two beers in the fridge -- a welcome surprise. On this trip we visited 17 states, bagged 3 high points, and drove over 4,200 miles in our new Honda Element. It was great fun and now we look forward to starting a life in Maryland.
